Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Review: Is it Perfect for Full-Screen Video? (2026)

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 has been heavily marketed as a 'full-screen' video device, but in my opinion, this is a bit of a stretch. While the device does offer an improved viewing experience compared to previous foldable models, it's not quite as revolutionary as Samsung would have us believe. The main screen's 10:16 aspect ratio is ideal for horizontal videos, but the 4:3 ratio of the inner display leaves letterboxing around virtually all video content, whether it's a movie or a YouTube video. This is a bit like the The Odyssey debacle, but in reverse. Samsung's marketing pitch is not fully reflective of reality, and while the device is an improvement, it's not as big of an improvement as Samsung wants us to think. Personally, I think that Samsung should have been more transparent about the limitations of the device's screen ratios and the resulting letterboxing. In my view, this is a missed opportunity to provide a truly immersive viewing experience. However, I still believe that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a step in the right direction for foldable technology, and it's worth considering if you're looking for a unique and innovative device.
